Paul,

That was the rule under Steve Earle's management. As far as I know it was only waived once, when Phil Hill had one at an Earle run event in Kansas City many years ago. Earle said in effect; "one exemption per World Championship". Even Stirling Moss was excluded after the tangle with Vic Edelbrock at Monterey a few years back. We will have to see how the new organizers handle this. I, for one, would hate to see potential entrants think that it is OK to damage irreplaceable cars. On the other hand, John Morton did not cause the Scarab crash and I'd hate to see him banned for something not of his doing. I'm in favor of anything that promotes oportunities for us to see rare and significant machinery in action.

Nice write-up Woody, thanks!

BTW, I was at a Motel 6 type of place and a walk-in was quoted $300 to stay the night, and he jumped at it. We do the room reserves at a Motel 6 in Marina, it's about $85 each night but one needs to do it, as you said, NOW.

One question: Does John Morton's shunt mean that he won't be able to drive in 2011? Isn't that (or wasn't it) the rule? It would be a shame, he is supremely qualified and it's always great to see him.

No Surrender,

Texas has a F1 history of of sorts. There was a 1984 Dallas Grand Prix that I attended. I recall it was brutally hot and the drivers were complaining that the course was deteriorating badly. I also remember surprisingly little viewer protection; at one corner the spectators could get incredibly close to the cars. The race was won by Keke Rosberg. There's a great write-up at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1984_Dallas_Grand_Prix.

Sounds somewhat interesting. I think a friend of mine is reading this book for her book club, but was having a hard time getting into it. I may have to see if the library has a copy yet. You always seem to be listening to something good.

Carol has already listened to this audio book. She really loved it.

She said that Patrick Dempsey bought the rights to make the movie about the book: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1478839/

Maybe this should be Enzo! (Elkhart Lake 2009) http://www.flickr.com/photos/24303622@N08/4519874388/

I got this one as a Christmas present from my son-in-law, and it is one that even non-car people will find entertaining. I'd recommend it expecially to animal lovers, and Enzo does a better job of explaining what makes racing people tick than most humans.

Can't argue with that. I too think the easiest way to get rid of the turbulence and put the drivers back in a position of prominence is to delete the wings. And now would be an especially good time to do it, since many of the teams don't need much real estate for sponsors anyway.

I still think they should do away with the front and rear wings, and just leave the Venturi tunnel. They can have whatever body shape they want, as long as there is no break in the surface except for air intake and engine cooling.

That should give the aerodynamicists a huge load of fits. That would lead to more of a pretty Can-Am shape!

A very good summary VBob, thanks muchly!

Very excited about USF1 and Lotus. Not familiar with the Lotus situation, think I'll Google around and learn what's up.
